Fawx Holiday and the Midnight Mutineer

(now querying)

13-year-old Fawx Holiday is one of only a few humans left living in a world ruled by animals. Big, hungry—and occasionally vicious—animals who walk as men and govern all of Aggrepaw. But that’s not even Fawx's biggest problem. There’s something about Fawx that makes him a Flook—a crime punishable by banishment or death. So he pretends to be someone he’s not. Acting the way his loving, though overprotective, mother instructs. Hiding himself in plain view for fear of being discovered for what he really is. But any sense of security is smashed to bits when a mysterious woman comes looking for Fawx, unraveling everything he thought he knew about life in Aggrepaw. Along with his best friend, an Otter named North, Fawx dives headfirst into a series of misadventures with Aggrepaw’s grimy criminal underbelly, twisted secrets with the potential to unravel history, and an Octopus whose fondness for artisanal cheeses leaves Fawx dizzy—all while trying to avoid the clutches of the slimy BISHOP Bloodbelly. If Fawx can overcome the challenges of not only the journey, but himself along the way, he might be able to save more lives than just his own. A fantastical world filled with humor and action, this story twists and turns until the very last page.

About the Author

ImageImageImage

Nico Hum makes a point of balancing success and failure. He once ate an apple in only two bites, including the core. Which was very impressive until he discovered the core's seeds are a well-known producer of every spy’s favorite poison—cyanide. Weathering his brush with death, Nico would go on to become a nationally recognized poetry slam champion. While the title seemed popular everywhere from coffee shops to universities across the country, it did very little when it came to wooing his future in-laws. Not one to be deterred, Nico turned to web design and copywriting in pursuit of a career worthy of suitorship. Winning his in-laws approval, Nico also managed to earn a respectable living and an anxiety disorder. He lives with his uncommonly patient wife and three children, two of which are covered in thick brown hair. They live in Columbus, Ohio where Nico received an autism diagnosis at the youthful age of 32.

Fawx Holiday and the Midnight Mutineer would be his debut novel. (Hopefully, it won’t be his last!)
